Getting Started For Coastal Magic 2019: Featured Blogger Introductions

Well, HELLO THERE, everyone!!

It’s been a little while since our 2018 Coastal Magic weekend, I hope you’ve all got some great memories from that event, and are ready to make some more at #CMCon19!

Some of the first things I have to do in the planning process are find amazing authors for you to get excited about, and incredible bloggers to help us get to know them all. The Featured Author announcement will be coming at the end of this month, but right now I’d like you to meet our Featured Blogger group.

Some of these will be familiar faces. (Laura’s been with me since the first year!) Not only do they work hard to promote our authors and the convention BEFORE our weekend, they moderate our panels and do SO MUCH to help make sure Coastal Magic runs smoothly. I’m thrilled to have so many returning bloggers, and excited to get to work with some amazing new peeps.

The blogs these ladies and gents represent cover such a wide variety of genres and target audiences, kinda like us! Each month, from July through February, they will host Featured Author Spotlights. This is where you get the chance to learn a little more about each of our Featured Authors, get familiar with their writing before the event, and even win a prize or two! In addition to their own monthly posts, these will be the blogs involved in any of our convention sponsored blog events, to promote Coastal Magic and/or the authors. Those will generally happen around a holiday, and will all involve contests. 🙂

So… give these blogs a peek. Be sure to subscribe to them, and/or follow all of their social media outlets, so you don’t miss any of the fun!

A Few Coastal Magic (#CMCon16) Updates

Hello, my lovelies!!!

It’s July, which for us in Florida means crazy hotness, interrupted by daily, afternoon monsoons. I hope you’re all enjoying whatever YOUR summer is bringing you!

And speaking of July… our registration opened up for the 2016 edition of Coastal Magic!! I know most of you already knew this, but in case you missed it… you can now get your full weekend registration for next February. This covers all our panels, meet & greets, and evening activities. It also gives you an opportunity to get discounted tickets for our off-site activity (Supernatural Lasertag, anyone??) Everyone will also receive a cool welcome bag, full of books/swag/novelties from our Featured Authors, signing authors, and even some authors who aren’t attending! Our Welcome bags are always pretty amazing, if I do say so, myself. 🙂

Our group block at our host hotel, the Hilton Daytona Beach OceanWalk Resort is just about full. I’m working on getting rooms added (not sure if this will be possible, so I’ll keep everyone posted), and am checking with nearby hotels about rate matching. There are about 13 hotels within less than a mile’s distance north and south of our Hilton. Staying at the host hotel is important to the event, and it is certainly convenient… but there are PLENTY of rooms in the very near vicinity if we do sell out of Hilton rooms. I’ll be updating the Travel page of this site with other hotel options soon, just in case we do sell out and aren’t able to add any additional rooms onto our block.

Thanks to a reader in our Coastal Magic Authors & Attendees Facebook group, we just learned that JetBlue will be adding new routes in their schedule, straight to the Daytona Beach International Airport!! Anyone able to fly into there (many, but not all, airlines) will be only 15 minutes from our hotel!! (Orlando or Jacksonville are the other alternatives, and are each approximately 90 minutes away.)

Now… having gotten the details shared… a few people have asked for a quick visual of our Featured Author listing. Here ya go…

CMCFAlisting1In addition to these awesome authors (and there’ll be a few more names added throughout the summer), we’ve got some fantastic non-featured authors who’ll be participating in the signing. The complete list is on our Charity Book Signing page, but for quick reference, some other authors who’ll be with us for the signing are…

Shannon Bell
Asa Maria Bradley
Heidi Cullinan
Alexa Grace
Andrew Grey
Debra Jess
Ambrielle Kirk (awa Amber Ella Monroe)
Evelyn Lederman
M J O’Shea
Valerie Twombly
Onyx Webb
(more to be added throughout the summer)

So… as you can see, we’ll have plenty of new and returning faces to hang out with. I’m SO excited!!

Another reason to be excited is YOU HAVE THREE DAYS LEFT TO ENTER TO WIN THE FEATURED BLOGGER GRAND SWAG PRIZE!!! After you’ve registered, be sure to click to enter the super-crazy-cool contest our Featured Bloggers have put together for you. You KNOW they’ve got the best swag/books (some signed!)/ebook codes/novelties… and they’re going to send some of it to YOU! 12 bloggers are each contributing a stack of goodies, and you’ve got a TON of chances to win! It all ends on July 15th, so if you’ve already registered… click the button to start entering. If you haven’t registered yet… now’s a great time to take care of that, and enter to win some incredible goodies, while you’re at it.

Thanks to everyone who’s been sharing the info about Coastal Magic. Word of mouth and the strength of our social media connections is the main way people find out about our little shindig. Make sure all of your reading buddies know you’re coming to hang out with us… share our info in your reading groups and book clubs. Because of YOU, and our fantabulous authors, we’re going to have an amazing February!

A Bit of Inspiration (… and Real Life)

How’s about THAT for a way to spend the afternoon?? I honestly love this picture… SO much. It was a happy surprise when I checked out Featured Author Jan DeLima’s blog post, today, about coming to the Daytona/St. Augustine area for next year’s Coastal Magic Convention. You can find her fun post HERE, along with lots of other beachy, beautiful pics to go with this one.

It serves as a subtle, yet not-so-subtle reminder that registration is open, for anyone who’d like to join Jan, the rest of the Featured Authors, and all of us anxious readers! We’re going to have such a great time!! I’m torn between wishing it was February NOW, and being glad I have enough time to finish getting everything ready, lol.

Be sure to keep an eye out for blog posts from our Featured Bloggers, spotlighting our Featured Authors. There will be promos, interviews, reviews, and fun guest spots every month to help all of you get to know our group better. I can’t wait to see what everyone’s got in store for us!! There’s a running list of links on our Featured Blogger page, if you want to check out anything you may have missed.

I’ve got some real life things going on this month (Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and DragonCon… I do love my real life!), but I’ll be starting to work on a panel and meet & greet schedule in September. I hope I’ll have that up for everyone in late September, early October. *fingers crossed* Right now… here’s the bare bones (might change, but probably not by too much) outline of how things will happen that weekend. (I’m posting this now, so if you’re interested in coming, you’ll have an idea of when to arrive/leave.)

  • 6-10pm – Author / Blogger events
  • 6pm – 12am – Game Room / Meet-up area for all attendees

  • 7-9pm – Supernatural Lasertag at Daytona Lagoon (requires separate ticket at registration)

  • 10am-4pm – Panels / Meet & Greets (Lunch break around 12pm-ish?)
  • 5-7pm – Charity Booksale / Signing (benefits Habitat For Humanity… open to the public)
  • 8-11pm – Evening Mingle (catchy name TBD, lol)

Sunday, Feb 8th:

  • 9-10am – Charity Raffle Basket Winners Announced (baskets must be picked up by noon or alternate winners will be chosen)
  • 10am-2pm – Panels (in addition to reader-focused programming, this is likely where our “writer/industry” focused panels will be)
  • 12-2pm – Swag Crafts (fun ways to use/display all of your convention swag!!)
  • 2-2:30pm – Goodbye/Feedback chat (informal, give thoughts/suggestions on how things went, and how to improve)

Ok, I think that’s all the news for now. I’m so happy with the way things have been progressing behind the scenes. Now we just have to get all of YOU to join us in February… by the beach… with a bunch of authors and reader friends…

Oh, I do love my real life!

Coastal Magic 2014 Wrap Up

thank_you_005Holy Wowza, ya’ll!!!! That was fun.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who hung out in the gloomy rain this past weekend in Daytona. I hope those of you who came from ice & snow got to see our Florida sunshine on Sunday! Despite a few kinks in the fly-line, we had a really, REALLY good time.

I posted briefly on the convention’s Facebook page, but I’ll expand here, that there were a LOT of people who made this event possible. My book club girls put up with my crazy, and helped with the prep-work to get us ready… ya’ll are rockstars!!! I had a fantastic group of Featured and Registered bloggers who helped with promo during the year, and pretty much ran the show during the weekend, MODing all of the panels. Nicely done, ladies. I would have been fangirling everyone all by my lonesome if it wasn’t for the other readers who came from all over to join us. It was really amazing to me to see the connections as they were being made. Our sponsors, who helped provide the things we needed, and a few things we wanted :-).  And of course, the inspiration for the weekend, our Featured Authors. Your words move us to do wild things… they grow our imaginations, they motivate us to create friendships and communities, and they convinced this wee little blogger girl to throw a beach party and invite the cool kids. Thanks for coming to my shindig.

I know there were a few mishaps (last minute book deliveries, OY!… and, Rebecca, not only do I owe you a sunny vacation, but I hear I owe you breakfast, too?? *hugs*), and a few misunderstandings, but all-in-all we had a good time. I was looking through the feedback forms and have some ideas about ways to improve things for next year (last year you guys said you wanted an evening for all the authors and all the readers to hang out and really chat and such… no one said ANYTHING about a dancefloor, lol!!! But… message received… next year, we’ll have a dancefloor!!) I’ve also got some ideas for panels you’d like to see, and authors you’d like to have attend (MORE URBAN FANTASY and MALE AUTHORS!!!)… I’ll do the best I can 🙂

I want to say a special thank you to all of the authors who sold their own books at the signing, and offered our charity (Habitat for Humanity) a portion of their sales. (Books-A-Million donated 10% of all sales rung through our on-site register that weekend.) Your support means the world to me, and it will do so much good in that community. As a whole, we sold over $5000 worth of books ($1000 more than last year!!!), and the raffle baskets raised almost $160. That’s over $600 from our little(ish) group, I’m pretty darn proud of us.

I’ve seen a lot of pictures floating around (I need to upload mine to my computer to share), and I’ve read a few wrap up posts from others who were there. I’m going to start a running list of what I find over on the media page. I’ll update it from time to time, so check back if you’re interested in some of the shenanigans.

In response to those who’ve already emailed me to ask…

  • Yes, there will be a convention next year… Feb 5-8, 2015
  • I’m 95.5% sure it will be at the Hilton again
  • I’ll start contacting potential Featured Authors around the middle/end of March. (If you’re an author who’s emailed me at any point and asked to be on the waiting list/contact list for 2015, or if you were mentioned as a request on the feedback forms, I’ll be emailing you.)
  • I’ll start looking for Featured Bloggers around April/May – watch the website for more info
  • YES, there will be a dancefloor!

I think that’s it for me. I had an incredible time… met some really amazing people and got to hang with good friends. I think I’m finally NOT tired anymore, so that’s a good thing. Today I’m off of work, so I’ll be loading all of my new books onto my bookshelves and figuring out how I want to scrapbook my swag.

Thanks, again, for doing this with me… hope to see you all soon!!
