Coastal Magic’s annual Reading Challenge is underway! The Reading Challenge is a fun way for readers to interact with each other, and with some of our Featured Authors, in the months before our weekend together. We have a separate Facebook group for chatting, posting book promo (sales and freebies), and chatting with each other and the authors. There’s also some friendly competition as readers earn points for each of the books they read, and win spots in virtual chats with authors each month.
The goal is to have read at least one book from each of our Featured Authors by the time #CMCon21 rolls around. There is a reading and spotlight schedule set, although you’re welcome to read in any order you like. And authors have given us a list of books they recommend, if you’ve never read anything by them.
In addition, participating authors are spotlighted each month, and do interactive activities ranging from posts with contests, to live chats, to interactive games!! These are open to all readers, and have been a ton of fun so far. Be sure to check out recordings from previous activities, and the schedule to see who’s coming up soon!
You can access this info and all the lists on the Reading Challenge tab of this site, and on the “Read For Bookclub” website, run by Dolorianne, who puts so much effort into making our Reading Challenge fun for everyone.
Hello, lovely readers!! I’ve got some updates to share!!
In case you’ve missed it — we have finalized our Featured Author listing for #CMCon21! Huge thanks go to all of the authors willing to try this strange new thing with all of us this year. Here is a handy dandy listing of our lineup — be sure to check out the Featured Author tab of this website for more about each author and links to their websites. ❤
You all know that our 2021 event weekend will be virtual. What you may not know is that we’ll be doing monthly panel discussions with Featured Authors to get everyone used to how the process will work! You’ll have an opportunity to send in questions ahead of time, and the authors will get to as many of them as possible. I’ll have the final dates and participating author listings for you soon, but here are the topics planned for each month…
A few tips to having a smooth and easy virtual event with us:
We’ll also be showcasing some of our Featured Authors in the monthly CMCon newsletter! Usually the first offering of each year goes out in July, but I’m running a bit behind this year. That means we’ll get two newsletters in August, AND none of you has missed any of them yet! If you want to be sure to get exclusive sneak peeks and access to newsletter only contests/giveaways – click HERE to subscribe!
So many things are going to be different for our 9th annual weekend together (apart) — and I’m looking forward to all the fun new shenanigans we’re able to get into, virtually! However, there are a few things that I’m trying to hold on to, despite all of the chaos going on around us. One of those things is the start of our Coastal Magic Featured Author Announcements!!
We don’t have a full listing of authors yet — changing to a virtual program is exactly what some authors were hoping for, but not so much for others. As usual, in an effort to keep our Featured Author lineup fresh and exciting, we’ll be giving some of our familiar faces a rest next year, and welcoming some new, and “new-to-us” authors into our little family. (Don’t worry, you’ll likely see them again in the future.) For now — here is our current list of Featured Authors:
A C Arthur
Eric R Asher
K C Burn
Kiernan Kelly / Dakota Chase
Gail Z Martin / Morgan Brice
J D Monroe / Jessica Hawke
H D Smith / Sloane Savage
Victoria Sue / Scarlett English
I’m in the process of updating this website to reflect all of the things we’re trying to accomplish for our 2021 event — and as always, the Coastal Magic Convention: Authors & Attendees Facebook Group is a fun place to hang out and chat all things #CMCon21.
I don’t have exact details for reader registration yet, but will be updating all of our social media and this blog when info is available.
Things have been unsettled in so many ways lately. I hope you’re all taking care in whatever ways you need to, and keeping yourselves occupied with awesome things.
Since the end of this year’s weekend, things have been a bit quiet in the Coastal Magic Convention playground, but today — WE HAVE NEWS!!!
I’ve made the decision that 2021 will be a virtual event. I know this isn’t everyone’s “cup o’ tea”, but it’s the best option we have of being able to put on an event safely. Could the world be all better in February? Maybe, and I REALLY hope that it is, but I can’t afford to take the chance that it won’t be. I’m hoping to create something with the same spirit and feel as our annual event — the same personal interactions, the same interesting discussions, the same oddball funtimes — just accessible from your living room, in your pjs. (Or, hey… go ahead and put on your beachwear — get in the groove!!)
I don’t have all the answers about exactly HOW we’re going to do everything just yet. Some other events have done some really fun things virtually, so I’m soaking up a lot of options and doing a lot of research into what’s possible. If you’re a member of the Coastal Magic Convention: Authors & Attendees Facebook group, you’ll likely see some of my brainstorming as it happens. If you’d like to be informed as things get decided/updated, be sure you’re subscribed to this blog and/or our newsletter.
In MORE exciting news… it’s June 1st!! In Coastal Magic Land, that means the first Featured Author announcement! Click HERE to see some of the amazing authors who’ll be joining us live-via-video in February.
While I’m sad that it’s necessary, I’m actually excited to explore all of the fun, unique things we’ll be able to do as a virtual event. I hope you’re all willing to come along for the ride!!
Ladies & Gents:
In many past years, we’ve either had a t-shirt that we can all order before the convention, or an author/publisher has sponsored shirts for every attendee. This year, we didn’t have either, and it was definitely noticed, lol. So… in response to MANY inquiries (and because I love the t-shirts, too), we’re offering a Coastal Magic 2020 Souvenir T-shirt available. (Kinda like getting the concert shirt after a great show. <3)
The company doing our 2020 Souvenir T-Shirts is called Clothesline, and they did our AMAZING 2019 event shirts. They don’t usually do single orders, as they’re a bulk/corporate orders company. Unfortunately, this means their system won’t allow for individual orders the way we’re going to do them (without doing a huge programming thing, which we’re not going to ask them to do.) SO… the instructions for ordering your shirt(s) are listed below. They will be taking orders for approx 2 weeks (I’ll get you a definite end date ASAP, and will post it on our social media.) Shirts will ship out shortly thereafter.
S-XL: $10.58 plus tax
2X: $12.18 plus tax
3X: $12.98 plus tax
4X: $13.78 plus tax
USPS Shipping is $8.50 and UPS shipping is $15
Once you get your shirt, I’d LOVE to see pics of you wearing them out and about. Pretty please, and thank you.
